AER CEO Orders Hearing to Review Ferus Application

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Oct. 28, 2015) - The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) will hold a public hearing to address the concerns of stakeholders pertaining to an application by Ferus Natural Gas Fuels Inc. for construction of a liquefied natural gas facility approximately three kilometres southeast of Villeneuve, Alberta.

Earlier today CEO Jim Ellis directed the AER chief hearing commissioner to conduct a hearing to review the application.

"We have many processes designed to address stakeholders' concerns with oil and gas development in Alberta, including appropriate dispute resolution, that have a high success rate in resolving and mitigating concerns," said CEO Ellis. "But when there are directly and adversely affected Albertans whose issues remain unresolved, we will call a public hearing."

An AER hearing is a formal, quasi-judicial proceeding for parties who may be directly and adversely affected by a proposed energy project. It provides a level playing field for all participants, who each have the opportunity to present evidence and question the positions of others. AER hearings provide hearing commissioners with the evidence necessary to make a fully informed decision.

The start date and venue of the hearing have not yet been determined. Once the panel of independent hearing commissioners has been established, participants will be notified directly about the details of the proceeding. The AER will also publish a notice of hearing.

More information about the AER's hearing process can be found here: http://www.aer.ca/about-aer/enerfaqs/enerfaqs-hearing.

The AER ensures the safe, efficient, orderly, and environmentally responsible development of hydrocarbon resources over their entire life cycle. This includes allocating and conserving water resources, managing public lands, and protecting the environment while providing economic benefits for all Albertans.
