Ameresco Enters into Energy Savings Performance Contract with U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hamilton New York
Project will provide for facility-wide energy conservation and 1.16
megawatts of new solar photovoltaic systems to be installed at the
garrison located in Brooklyn
Ameresco, Inc. (NYSE: AMRC), a leading energy
efficiency and renewable
energy company, announced today the Defense Logistics Agency Energy,
on behalf of the United States Army Garrison Fort Hamilton, has entered
into an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC)
with Ameresco for solar photovoltaic, water conservation and energy
efficiency upgrades. The contract, valued at $16.7 million, is designed
to provide for facility-wide energy conservation measures, including
1.16 megawatts of new solar photovoltaic systems on carports and
rooftops at the military base located in New York City.
“Ameresco is proud to serve this active-duty military base in New York
City by providing holistic energy upgrades that will enhance their
day-to-day operations and provide for renewable energy,” said Nicole A.
Bulgarino, Senior Vice President, Federal Solutions, Ameresco. “Through
this project, Fort Hamilton will help support the Army’s energy
efficiency and renewable energy goals from this historic and important
garrison located in Brooklyn.”
The budget-neutral ESPC will address 32 buildings spanning 580,000 gross
square feet. Ameresco will implement nine energy conservation measures,
including the installation of new high-efficiency natural gas condensing
boilers for heating and associated equipment. The new boilers will
replace the existing boiler systems that currently utilize fuel oil. In
addition, Ameresco will install a 350 kilowatt rooftop solar system and
three solar carports exceeding a combined 800 kilowatts.
The ESPC will also provide for comprehensive upgrades to air-handlers
for cooling and ventilation, LED lighting upgrades, new high-efficiency
transformers and the installation of a new open-protocol building
automation system to control all HVAC equipment. Ameresco is also
improving the building envelope of a historic building at the garrison
constructed in 1857. The scope for this 47,000 foot building, known as
the Community Club, includes installation of a double pane retro-fit
system to the existing windows as well as heating, ventilation and
cooling (HVAC) upgrades, advanced digital controls and high efficiency
boiler improvements.
Combined, the energy conservation measures are designed to reduce the
total energy consumption at Fort Hamilton by 37 percent. The project
will also provide for water conservation, fixture upgrades and new
controllers for the automated irrigation system for the base’s baseball
field, which will schedule and optimize the field’s irrigation. Ameresco
is also implementing a rainwater harvesting system that will collect
rooftop rainwater that will then be utilized for the washing of garrison
vehicles.
Ameresco will provide ongoing maintenance services to Fort Hamilton for
the new solar systems and the building controls systems installed under
the ESPC.
