Baker Hughes Incorporated (NYSE:BHI) announced today that the international rig count for January 2016 was 1,045, down 50 from the 1,095 counted in December 2015, and down 213 from the 1,258 counted in January 2015. The international offshore rig count for January 2016 was 242, down 8 from the 250 counted in December 2015, and down 72 from the 314 counted in January 2015.
The average
U.S.
rig count for January 2016 was 654, down 60 from the 714 counted in December 2015, and down 1,029 from the 1,683 counted in January 2015. The average Canadian rig count for January 2016 was 192, up 32 fom the 160 counted in December 2015, and down 176 from the 368 counted in January 2015.
The worldwide rig count for January 2016 was 1,891, down 78 from the 1,969 counted in December 2015, and down 1,418 from the 3,309 counted in January 2015.

The Baker Hughes Rotary Rig Counts are counts of the number of drilling rigs actively exploring for or developing oil or natural gas in the
U.S.

Canada
and international markets.
Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when
Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of the
U.S.
and Canadian drilling activity.
Baker Hughes initiated the monthly international rig count in 1975.
The North American rig count is scheduled to be released at noon Central time on the last working day of each week. The international rig count is scheduled to be released on the fifth working day of the month at 5:00 a.m. Central time.
