Energy Outreach Colorado Investing $10 Million in Energy Assistance

DENVER, Oct. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Energy Outreach Colorado (EOC) is investing $10 million during the coming year to help limited-income Coloradans remain warm and safe in their homes.

This funding will be distributed through a statewide network of more than 100 community assistance organizations in the form of energy bill payment assistance for qualifying households. A portion also will go to Colorado's federally-funded Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) to increase the average household benefit.

A new emphasis this year is to help pay off old energy bills that are preventing homeless families from moving into stable housing. "Many recently homeless families could afford to stay on top of monthly energy bills if they could pay off their old energy debt," said Enrique Hernandez, energy assistance manager at Energy Outreach Colorado. "We are making it a priority to remove this burden so they can become self-sufficient and remain in stable housing over the long term."

Energy Outreach Colorado is in its 26th year of raising funds through individual and organizational donors for energy bill payment assistance and is the only nonprofit in Colorado to do so. EOC also manages the state's Crisis Intervention Program, which repairs the nonworking heating systems of limited-income households, and provides grants to install energy efficiency improvements in affordable housing and nonprofit facilities.  More information is available at www.EnergyOutreach.org.
