FirstFuel Announces LADWP as Part of 13 New Utility Engagements

Utilities tap FirstFuel’s market-leading customer intelligence solution to connect with business customers

FirstFuel Software, the trusted source for customer intelligence for energy providers, today announced partnerships with 13 new utilities and related agencies. Growing its client roster significantly in 2015, FirstFuel now provides customer intelligence for more than 2.5 million commercial meters across the U.S., Canada and Europe – marking growth of more than 300 percent since this time last year and reinforcing its role as the leader in customer analytics for energy providers.

FirstFuel’s newly announced engagements and expansions in the U.S. and Europe consist of both utilities and energy retailers. These include Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), E.ON, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), Southern California Edison (SCE), NV Energy, Eversource, Arizona Public Service, Maryland Energy Administration, New York Power Authority (NYPA), NYSERDA, Austin Energy, DTE Energy and Southern California Gas.

As energy providers continue to face market pressures tied to technology advancements in distributed generation, new energy efficiency mandates, customer satisfaction goals and increased competition, they increasingly seek innovative ways to deliver value to their customers. By understanding and presenting actionable, analytical intelligence about customers' energy use, FirstFuel uniquely delivers a customer intelligence platform for utilities to better engage business customers to improve satisfaction and accelerate the uptake of energy services such as demand management and energy efficiency.

FirstFuel has enabled utility partners to become energy advisors to their customers, driving reduced sales cycles by 50 percent, increased uptake in energy projects and doubling the level of low-cost digital engagement with business customers.

“At LADWP, we’re committed to helping our customers eliminate wasted energy and reduce their bills, and tapping the benefits of data analytics is absolutely key to this demand side management and customer service strategy,” said David Jacot, Director of Efficiency Solutions at LADWP. “Our early work with the FirstFuel platform delivered strong value via deep insights and a better customer experience, and we’re looking forward to realizing these benefits at scale.”

LADWP recently expanded its work with FirstFuel to encompass all of its commercial premier account customers after a successful initial deployment of the software. In the past year, LADWP has more than doubled its energy savings objectives, and is seeking to support its premier account management teams with resources providing deeper and more scalable customer intelligence to help meet the new goals cost-effectively. LADWP’s pilot work with FirstFuel remotely created intelligence on over 100 program-specific savings measures in more than six million square feet of building space in 20 geographically dispersed locations using only meter data - reducing the time and expense of assembling the same information manually by more than 80 percent. Most importantly, business customers gave high marks to LADWP’s analytics-based approach, citing the more streamlined use of their time and better information and transparency provided to make and support investments.

Other example expansions and deployments include:

  • Arizona Public Service – Selected FirstFuel via a competitive process to target and accelerate energy efficiency programs and improve business customer experiences using advanced customer intelligence.
  • E.ON – Expanded its use of FirstFuel's analytics-based customer intelligence to power its digital self-serve portal and accelerate its energy services sales teams.
  • Eversource – Selected FirstFuel to help provide customer intelligence to accelerate and support its vertically-specialized commercial account management team.

“2015 was an incredibly strong year for FirstFuel and the need for customer intelligence in the energy sector continues to grow at a rapid pace,” said Swapnil Shah, CEO, FirstFuel. “We have purposefully built a platform that not only provides energy intelligence at scale, but has the ability to hugely impact the way utilities engage with business customers over the web, on the phone and in person.”

Following a record year, FirstFuel kicks off 2016 with an expanded team of more than 110 employees across the U.S. and Europe. Analyzing more than 55 million new utility meter data points per day, the FirstFuel solution provides the intelligence necessary to strengthen customer retention, improve satisfaction and drive service cross-sells, enabling utilities and energy retailers to grow revenue at scale.
