Ben Bernanke, former chairman of the Federal Reserve, has been named as an outside senior adviser to Citadel, the Chicago investment firm founded by billionaire Ken Griffin.

The firm said Bernanke will consult with Citadel teams on monetary policy, financial markets and the global economy.

In a statement, Griffin said Bernanke’s “insights on monetary policy and the capital markets will be extremely valuable to our team and to our investors.”

Bernanke was Fed Chairman from February 2006 to January of last year. Bernanke is also a distinguished fellow in residence with the Brookings Economic Studies Program. His book on the financial crisis is expected to be published by this fall.

Griffin is the richest man in Illinois. He founded the Citadel in 1990.
