Futurpreneur Canada and BG Canada announce the Second Annual ThriveNorth Business Challenge in the Northwest Region of B.C.

PRINCE RUPERT, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Nov. 23, 2015) - Today, Futurpreneur Canada and BG Canada announced that the ThriveNorth Business Challenge will return for a second year.

The ThriveNorth Business Challenge is a pitch competition that recognizes the innovation and talent of young, aspiring entrepreneurs from across British Columbia's Northwest by giving them an opportunity to showcase their business ideas. ThriveNorth will once again host the finalists throughout a two-day Challenge, where they will receive mentorship and one-on-one coaching to prepare their business plans and pitches. They will then compete for cash prizes to launch and grow their businesses.

"We are thrilled to bring the Challenge back for its second year and work with more of the region's talented young people," says Julia Deans, CEO, Futurpreneur Canada. "The level of commitment and enthusiasm we saw from last year's finalists was truly inspiring and, as ThriveNorth launches this year's Challenge, I look forward to seeing more of the ideas, passion and potential that the region's entrepreneurs have to offer."

"Small business is the backbone of the economy throughout Northern B.C.," says Simon Nish, VP Sustainability of BG Canada. "We are committed to helping grow small businesses and create jobs. Over the past year, we've helped several young entrepreneurs to take big steps forward. Their ambition and entrepreneurial spirit has been nothing short of amazing. We are proud to once again host the ThriveNorth Business Challenge. We look forward to supporting many more entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses throughout Northwest B.C."

Many of the 2015 Business Challenge participants are benefitting from other ThriveNorth programs including its Peer Mentor Circle, and resources such as funding and mentoring. To date, 14 young people have received funding through ThriveNorth. Eight have started a new business, five have grown their existing business, and one other is close to launch.

The ThriveNorth initiative is made possible by the partnership between Futurpreneur Canada and BG Canada. It operates on a shared belief that a mix of thriving local businesses and larger development projects is essential in building a strong local economy. ThriveNorth strives to help young people in British Columbia's Northwest region see the opportunity in entrepreneurship, and to take the next steps in starting and or growing their own businesses. Now in its second year, ThriveNorth is actively engaging local business networks to empower and enhance entrepreneurship opportunities for young people in the Northwest region.

We will be announcing the opening of applications for the 2016 ThriveNorth Business Challenge in January. Those interested in applying are invited to attend the ThriveNorth Start-Up Chats and Business Planning Workshops to hear from past Challenge participants, receive coaching and to start preparing their applications.
