Canada NewsWire

RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 4, 2015 /CNW/ - Petro Rio S.A. ("PetroRio" or the "Company") (BM&FBOVESPA: PRIO3, TSX-V: PRJ) announces that received the confirmation from the Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (Agência Nacional do Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis - ANP), through Official Letter 01705/2015/SDP, for the approval granted on the Assignment of Rights concerning the 40% stake from Maersk Energia Ltda ("Maersk") in the Polvo Field, in the Campos Basin, Brazil.

The approval of this transaction is one more successful step in the implementation of PetroRio's growth strategy based on acquiring producing fields. Thereby, as the Company now holds 100% of this asset, its production and revenues will increase by about 60%.

As already broadly announced by PetroRio, now as the sole owner of Polvo, the Company will invest in its redevelopment and in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), increasing the production and extending the Field's economic life.

The Polvo Field has Brazil's seventh largest daily production of barrels of oil equivalent (boe). Polvo Field license covers an area of approximately 134km2, with several prospects with potential for further explorations. In January 2015, PetroRio announced the proposed acquisition of 80% of the Bijupira and Salema Fields located at the same basin, Campos Basin, at a distance of approximately 80 km from the Polvo Field. In June 2015, PetroRio announced the proposed acquisition of the remaining 20%. The Bijupira and Salema Fields will allow PetroRio to triple its current production volume. The BJSA acquisition is subject to the approval of Brazil's National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).

The Company´s corporate culture seeks to increase production through the acquisition of new production assets, the re-exploration of assets, increased operational efficiency and reduction of production costs and corporate expenses.
