Media Advisory: Aker Philadelphia Shipyard Starts Construction on Third and Fourth Product Tankers for Kinder Morgan
Aker Philadelphia Shipyard:
BACKGROUND –The new vessels will be 600-foot long and have a
carrying capacity of 14.5 million gallons of crude oil or refined
products. The vessels will be built with consideration for use of LNG as
propulsion in the future and are planned to be delivered between
November 2016 and November 2017. Upon their completion they will be sold
to subsidiaries of Kinder Morgan. The transaction for the four tankers
is valued at a total of $568 million and will help sustain the
shipyard’s 1,100 jobs for years to come.
The ceremony will mark the start of production for the third and fourth
vessel in the four ship series. The first plate of steel will be cut on
the shipyard’s state of the art plasma cutting machine. Lieutenant
Governor Stack will push the button to formally begin production.
Guest speakers include Lieutenant Governor Michael J. Stack III.
