NASDAQ Last Topped 5,000 in 2001

The NASDAQ composite index broke the 5,000 point threshold on February 25, 2015 – the first time in more than a decade. Stocks extended gains for the 11th straight day on Wednesday; one day after the Federal Reserve Chairwoman said that rising interest rates are being taken “under consideration.”

The all-time record close of 5,048 occurred in March 2000, just before the dot-com fallout. NASDAQ is currently up about 5% in 2015 and has outperformed its competitors on a percentage basis thus far. For the sake of comparison, below is a list of differences from March 2000 and February 2015.
