PG&E Honored by MBNUSA for Supplier Diversity Accomplishments

In recognition of Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s (PG&E) long track record of supporting minority business development through its supplier diversity programs, MBNUSA (Minority Business News) Magazine has named PG&E Chairman, CEO and President Tony Earley to its 2015 “Best of the Decade” list.

The Best of the Decade awards honor individuals who’ve been steadfast in their commitment to driving supply chain minority business development for a decade or more. PG&E was the only utility company to receive the award.

In addition, PG&E’s Director of Supply Chain Responsibility Joan Kerr was named to the publication’s Circle of Honor. She was the lone honoree from a regional company. Both recognitions were announced in the fourth quarter 2015 edition of MBNUSA Magazine.

“PG&E’s efforts to embrace supplier diversity over the past 34 years have helped us build a better company—and ultimately a better California. Diverse suppliers have been key partners in improving our ability to deliver safe, reliable, affordable and clean energy to the 16 million people we serve. In the process, we’re adding to the value that PG&E brings to our communities and economy by giving new and growing opportunities to an array of diverse local businesses,” said Earley in the publication.

PG&E has one of the nation’s top diverse supply chains. For the last three years, diverse suppliers have accounted for more than $2 billion of the utility’s annual spend, representing more than 40 percent of PG&E’s overall spend.

Examples of efforts by PG&E’s Supply Chain Responsibility program to promote minority business development have included the following:

Besides the MBNUSA Magazine Best of the Decade accolade, PG&E’s commitment to diversity and supply chain responsibility has been recognized by:

  • Black Enterprise Magazine, which selected PG&E as one of the “40 Best Companies for Diversity” (specifically supplier diversity) in 2015.
  • DiversityInc., which named PG&E for the seventh straight year as one of the nation’s top five utilities for diversity.
  • Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), which acknowledged PG&E as one of America’s top corporations in support of women’s business enterprises.
