PG&E Honors Seven Business Partners at 10th Annual Supplier Awards

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) recently recognized seven business partners as the best in several categories during the company’s 10th annual Supplier Awards dinner at the San Ramon Valley Conference Center. Among the seven winners, BARNARD Pipeline Inc. was named as the 2015 Supplier of the Year and 2015 Gas Operations Supplier of the Year.

“At PG&E, our goal is to provide safe, reliable, affordable and clean energy to the nearly 16 million Californians we serve. We simply cannot do this without the efforts of our suppliers. Our Supplier Awards recognize these invaluable partners for helping us build trust with our customers through excellent operations,” said PG&E Chairman, CEO and President Tony Earley.

PG&E’s supplier network consists of 4,000-plus companies. These enterprises from many different industries help the utility to deliver safe, reliable, affordable and clean energy to nearly 16 million people. PG&E does more than $4 billion of business annually with these companies, which range from small and medium-sized local firms to larger organizations.

PG&E’s supplier network provides various services and materials (from power pole replacement and gas pipeline hydrostatic testing to laptop computers) to help PG&E with its needs. The utility’s supplier relationships represent a major part of its overall contribution to California’s state and local economies.

“We were surprised and humbled to receive this award. It means a lot to our people as they have worked very hard to achieve and maintain the highest level of performance recognition. Our integrity, transparency, open communications and collaboration with PG&E has been key to the overall success of the Alliance Program. Working for PG&E has helped us with improving our safety, quality assurance and quality control management. We want to be a long-term service provider for PG&E,” said Marty Jorgensen, president of BARNARD Pipeline Inc.

Recognizing the Support and Performance of Key Suppliers

Out of PG&E’s many suppliers, 44 were nominated. Winners were selected on their performance in safety, quality of work and performance, cost, responsiveness and timeliness, diversity, innovation and environmental stewardship.

Accomplishments by the honored suppliers included:

  • Exemplary safety performance
  • Saving nearly $12 million in storing and safely distributing wood power poles to job sites
  • Posting near perfect scores according to PG&E standards in quality of product provided
  • Using diverse subcontractors
