83 Percent Want Presidential Candidates to Address Nation's Energy Future
WASHINGTON, Oct. 6, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- New national polling highlights a strong desire on the part of the American public for the presidential candidates to address a policy area they have barely touched: America's energy policy.
Eighty-three percent of Americans recently polled agree that the presidential candidates should talk more about the importance of a diversified electricity mix for the nation.
"Energy diversity is valued for providing options, keeping costs down and protecting the environment," said Ann Bisconti, president of Bisconti Research Inc.
The telephone survey of 1,000 U.S. adults was conducted from Aug. 30-Sept. 16 by Bisconti Research Inc. and Quest Global Research on behalf of the Nuclear Energy Institute. The full survey results are available at the Nuclear Energy Institute's website. Bisconti noted that surveys consistently find that Americans believe strongly in maintaining a diversity of energy sources to produce electricity.
In the latest survey, 95 percent of Americans said it is important to maintain energy diversity, and 73 percent said it is very important to do so.
Nuclear energy facilities operating in 30 states produce electricity for one of every five U.S. homes and businesses. Nuclear energy also is the nation's leading source of carbon-free electricity, generating 63 percent of the electricity supplied by zero-carbon sources.
The Nuclear Energy Institute is the nuclear energy industry's policy organization. This news release and additional information about nuclear energy are available at www.nei.org.
