RSI and Rose & Associates Announce the Development of an Upgraded Version of the SAAM Amplitude Analysis System Incorporating a Companion CSEM Module

The SAAM (Seismic Amplitude Analysis Module) has been developed in partnership between Rose & Associates and the “DHI Consortium,” a cooperative effort between over 60 leading E&P companies spanning the past 15 years. SAAM is the premier tool used by the industry for the systematic grading and risk assessment of seismic amplitude anomalies associated with oil and gas prospects. The Consortium, which has both Houston and European sections, meets eight times per year and is now in the process of organizing membership and goals for 2016 and 2017.

The approach used in SAAM is readily extendable to CSEM (Controlled Source Electro-Magnetics) data. The companion SAAM CSEM module, developed in partnership between Rose & Associates and RSI, allows the interpreter to assess the quality of CSEM data, both acquisition and processing, and the impact of the final integrated seismic/CSEM result on the probability of finding hydrocarbons.

Dr. Lucy MacGregor, Chief Technology Officer of RSI commented: “We believe the SAAM CSEM module will be extremely helpful in allowing E&P companies to extract real value from their seismic and CSEM data investments. As for seismic data, an understanding of the impact of CSEM data acquisition and processing can be measured, and we also quantify the intrinsic uncertainty between rock and fluid properties and geophysical measurements present in both seismic and CSEM data, within a single integrated risk analysis framework.”

Mike Forrest, Chairman of the Consortium commented: “In an effort to provide a more comprehensive assessment of hydrocarbon prospects and associated seismic amplitude anomalies, the CSEM module is a welcome addition to the SAAM software program. Our goal is to smoothly integrate CSEM assessments into the normal SAAM evaluation workflow.”
