Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass LNG export facility reports progress on construction

Cheniere Energy (ticker: LNG) released an update on its Sabine Pass project in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, today. According to the company, engineering and procurement for the first two trains of the project are 100% complete, with construction well under way.

Subcontract and direct hire construction work for Stage 1, which covers liquefaction trains 1 and 2, are 71.2% and 81.9% complete, respectively. Stage 1 overall project completion is 90.8% against the plan of 92.6%. Lube oil flushing of the ethylene compressor and the methane compressor, as well as synthetic oil flushing of the ethylene turbine began on train 1. Train 2 completed the erection of the two methane filter houses and began installation and testing of lube oil piping.

Engineering for Stage 2, which includes trains 3 and 4, is 99.8% complete, while procurement is 95.7% complete. Subcontract and direct hire construction work are 44.1% and 29.2% complete, respectively. Overall project completion for Stage 2 is 67.7% against the planned 70.1%, reports LNG. Train 3 received the cold boxes and construction continued to work on aboveground pipe installation. In train 4, above ground piping installation continued.

No construction took place on Stage 3, which includes trains 5 and 6, during the month of May. Cheniere filed its Implementation Plan and Request for Authorization to Conduct Site Preparation Activities with the Federal Energy Regulation Committee (FERC) on April 12, 2015.
