SemGroup Helps Local Meals on Wheels Build New Kitchen

Company Donates $20,000 for Kitchen Remodel Project to Expand Outreach

TULSA, Okla., Sept. 21, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SemGroup® Corporation (NYSE:SEMG) announced it will contribute a $20,000 donation to Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa. This money will help the local nonprofit remodel their kitchen and increase service capacity.

"Our goal is to build a new, more efficient kitchen that will serve the needs of our clients by enabling Meals on Wheels to produce and deliver 525,000 meals through 2018," says Meals on Wheels CEO Calvin Moore. "We sincerely appreciate the leadership and tremendous generosity of SemGroup."

"Meals on Wheels provides such a vital service to the Tulsa community," said Carlin Conner, CEO of SemGroup Corporation. "SemGroup is honored and excited to be one of the sponsors of this project and we look forward to extended outreach this remodel will provide. The Tulsa community is very important to our company and contributing to Meals on Wheels is one way for us to give back."

For 45 years, Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa has carried out its mission to deliver food and friendship to the homebound. Through a small staff and nearly 1,400 volunteers, they are able to provide elderly and disabled individuals with nutritious meals delivered to their doors, caring contacts from around the community and other life-enriching services to help ease loneliness and depression. Meals on Wheels serves clients in Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Owasso, Bixby, Jenks and Glenpool, and plans to expand to Sand Springs and Sapulpa in the coming months.

Food assistance programs are becoming increasingly necessary with an aging population. 10,000 Baby Boomers will turn 65 every day for the next 15 years, which will place great demand on organizations that target this demographic. Since the cost of one year for a senior to receive Meals on Wheels is less than the cost of one day in the hospital, these programs are not only more convenient, but are also cost effective ways to help seniors stay healthy and remain in their homes.

During 2014, Meals on Wheels served more than 230,000 meals with approximately 250 volunteers each day. A remodeled kitchen will help the organization meet goals recently launched in their Project 2020 initiative, which include expanding the number of volunteers, clients and meals served each year. "We desire to see more seniors live healthy lives, at home, independently and with dignity for longer," says Moore.
