TASS News Release

United States extended its sanctions against the Russian economy to Yuzhno-Kirinskoe oil and gas field in the Sea of Okhotsk. According to the notice published on Friday in the Federal Register by the US Industry and Security Bureau (BIS), the field will be under sanctions in export regulation.

The publication said the US government has determined that exports, reexports, and transfers (in-country) of all items subject to the Export Administration Regulations to this Russian field by any person without first obtaining a BIS license present an unacceptable risk of use in, or diversion to, the activities specified in the Russian industry sector sanctions.

Western sanctions will not affect operations of Gazprom on Kirinsky Block, company’s representative Anatoly Sorokin said last year. Yuzhno-Kirinskoe Field is “on the verge of sanctions” in terms of its bedding depth, he said. Furthermore, he added all the required equipment was already imported and was “in Russia or Korea.”
