Akron, Ohio – FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) utilities continue restoration efforts for customers who have lost power as a result of the massive winter storm that is moving through the eastern U.S. The company's utilities most affected by high winds and heavy snow include Jersey Central Power & Light's central New Jersey service area; Metropolitan Edison (Met-Ed) in eastern Pennsylvania; Mon Power in West Virginia; and Potomac Edison in Maryland and West Virginia.
Poor road conditions, coupled with continuing heavy snowfall, continue to hamper crews' efforts to access areas with damage to make repairs.
In all areas, crews continue to make repairs as any new outage calls are received. Current company updates include:
- JCP&L – Currently, about 37,000 are without power as a result of the weather. Overall, since the storm began approximately 90,000 JCP&L customers lost power, with more than a third of the total the result of an equipment problem in Ocean County. All customers affected by that outage have been restored. No substation flooding issues have been reported.
- Met-Ed – Crews are making repairs to about 300 customers without power. Approximately 2,000 customers who lost power earlier due to the weather have been restored.
- Mon Power – Sporadic power outages have been reported and repaired.
- Potomac Edison – Few power outages have been reported.

Customers who are without power are encouraged to call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) to report their outage or click the "Report Outage" link on www.firstenergycorp.com. Customers should immediately report downed wires to their utility or their local police or fire department. Customers should never go near a downed power line, even if they think it is no longer carrying electricity. Extra caution should be exercised in areas where downed wires may be tangled in downed tree branches or other debris.
