Alberta’s auditor general criticized Alberta Energy Wednesday for failing to assess the performance of its oil and gas royalty reduction programs and for failing to assess the potential impacts of a cyber attack on the industry.

With the first of 15 recommendations in his February report, Merwan Saher called on the ministry to annually evaluate and report on whether the ministry’s royalty reduction programs meet their objectives.

He also urged the ministry to assess the threat and impact of attacks on the industrial control systems used to operate oil and gas infrastructure.
