…the Shell-operated…Prelude floating LNG venture remaining off line. The plant offshore Western Australia is unlikely to restart before next year, and has been off line since February.

Australia’s LNG exports rose to a nine-month high of 7.04mn t in October, driven by record shipments from the Queensland port of Gladstone.

Total LNG shipments increased from 6.22mn t in September when the LNG plants at Gladstone were undertaking significant maintenance. The increase to 7.04mn t, which is just below the record monthly high of 7.22mn t set in January, comes despite the Shell-operated 3.6mn t/yr Prelude floating LNG venture remaining off line. The plant offshore Western Australia is unlikely to restart before next year, and has been off line since February.

Australia shipped a total of 64.61mn t of LNG in January-October, up from 63.51mn t in the same period last year, according to Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data released today. The ABS does not release information on destination countries for LNG exports.

The average export price for Australia’s LNG in October was $324.43/t, up from $216.50/t in September but down from $415.62/t in October 2019. This was based on a US-Australian dollar exchange rate of $0.7498.
