New York City, New York -- (June 05, 2013)

A report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) released last month said that increasing North American oil production has created a supply shock in the global oil market. The increase in North American oil production is being driven by the shale boom in the U.S. The IEA noted in its report that the shale boom has prompted several oil & gas drilling & exploration companies to rethink their global investment strategy. However, oil prices have come under pressure in recent weeks due to weakening demand, especially from China. This is a major concern for oil & gas drilling & exploration companies. Shares in oil & gas companies ended mostly lower on Tuesday, June 4, 2013. The major movers in the sector included Halcon Resources Corp. (NYSE: HK), Whiting Petroleum Corp. (NYSE: WLL), Bill Barrett Corporation (NYSE: BBG), Concho Resources Inc. (NYSE: CXO), and Rowan Companies Plc (NYSE: RDC).
