Capita appoints Jonathan Lewis as new CEO

Capita plc (“Capita”) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jonathan (Jon) Lewis as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with effect from 1 December 2017, at which point he will also join the Capita Board. Nick Greatorex, Group Finance Director, will continue to lead the Company as Interim Chief Executive until 30 November 2017.

Jon brings a wide range of executive and leadership expertise to Capita, with proven experience in technology-enabled services businesses, and a track record of delivering value from strategic business transformations. His most recent role was as Chief Executive of Amec Foster Wheeler until its acquisition by John Wood Group.

Jon Lewis joined Amec Foster Wheeler in 2016, following a 20-year career at leading, technology-based, oilfield services company Halliburton, which included 10 years working in, then running, the Landmark software business, a leading technology solutions provider of data management and analytics, science, software, and consulting services for the international oil and gas exploration and production industry. Jon’s strategy role at Landmark included working with customers to define a vision for the role of digital solutions in driving productivity, including early adoption of leading edge technologies, including real-time data telemetrics, immersive visualisation, big data and SaaS.

In his early career, Jon held a number of senior academic positions at both the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College London (NERC Research Fellow) and Heriot Watt University, where he developed and managed a successful commercial, contract research business primarily for the international petroleum sector.

  1. Jon Lewis joins Capita from Amec Foster Wheeler where he was Group CEO from 2016 until the successful sale of the business to the John Wood Group.

    Before joining Amec Foster Wheeler, Jon had a 20 year career at leading, technology-based, oilfield services company, Halliburton. He held a number of senior positions including SVP, Global Completion and Production Division and Member of the Executive Committee where he was responsible for six products service lines with $21billion in revenues and 44,000 employees, and SVP, Europe/Sub-Saharan Africa where he was responsible for all aspects of Halliburton’s business in the geography, the company’s largest operating region outside North America.

    From 1996-2006, Jon held a number of senior roles at Landmark Graphics, an innovative, B2B, software technology and consulting services company, wholly owned by Halliburton with 5,000 employees. This culminated in running the software business as VP, Innovation and Marketing, Landmark Division (Texas), where he was responsible for the Landmark Division’s strategy, research and development, innovation, intellectual property, marketing, IT company strategic partnerships, M&A and solution commercialization.

    Prior to his commercial career, Jon spent a number of years in academia. He was awarded the NERC post-doctoral grant for research on reservoir characterization while at the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine where he established and grew a commercial research group undertaking studies for British Petroleum, Conoco, Shell and Statoil (1987-90). From 1990-96 Jon was Principle Investigator and Conoco Lecturer, Petroleum Geology at Heriot Watt University, where he developed and managed a multi-million dollar commercial research contract portfolio.

    Jon holds a PhD (Geology/Sedimentology) from Reading University and graduated from Kingston University in 1984 with a BSc in Geology. He is married with two children.

  2. As CEO of Capita, Jon will receive an annual salary of £725,000 (which shall not be reviewed until the last quarter of 2020 with any increase effective as of 1 January 2021) and a pension allowance of 5% of salary. John will also be eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus plan up to a maximum of 200% of salary, and the long-term incentive plan up to 300% of salary. All remuneration arrangements are consistent with the terms of the Directors’ Remuneration Policy approved by shareholders at the AGM in June 2017.

  3. Jon’s past directorships: CEO of Amec Foster Wheeler (2016-2017); Non-executive director of CHC Group Ltd (2013-2016).

  4. In accordance with the Listing Rules, there are no additional matters that would require disclosure under LR 9.6.13 in relation to this appointment.
