Permit backlog began high-speed ascent as Proposition 112 sped toward ballot
Oil and gas companies in Colorado are facing an existential threat in Proposition 112, which will expand setbacks to a level that cuts off the vast majority of the state to drilling. With the vote less than one month away and limited polling data indicating a nearly even level of support and opposition, predicting the fate of the measure is impossible.

Companies are planning ahead in case the measure passes, however. Many DJ Basin drillers are attempting to accumulate as many drilling permits as possible before the measure would be implemented.
