ENERGY STAR® Canada Partners Recognized for Energy Efficiency Excellence

OTTAWA, June 22, 2017 /CNW/ - Improving energy efficiency is one of the least costly and most effective ways to address the global climate change challenge. It brings with it a tangible opportunity to support clean growth while enhancing innovation and productivity and creating jobs.

Today, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, the Honourable Jim Carr, announced the 2017 winners of the ENERGY STAR® Canada awards. The winners are ENERGY STAR Canada program participants from across the country. They represent utilities, manufacturers, retailers, associations and homebuilders that are helping Canadian consumers and businesses save money while also addressing climate change. This year's winners are:

ENERGY STAR Canada is a 16-year-long energy efficiency success story. The program is a voluntary partnership between the Government of Canada and more than 1,500 organizations working to use our natural resources more wisely through greater energy efficiency. Behind each ENERGY STAR label is a product or home that is independently certified to use less energy and cause fewer of the emissions that contribute to climate change. ENERGY STAR is Canada's simple choice to save energy and money and protect our environment.

  • The value of the energy efficiency market was estimated at over $300 billion in 2014 by the International Energy Agency (IEA), and it is expected to grow to $550 billion by 2035.
  • In December 2016, the Prime Minister and premiers emphasized their joint commitment to energy efficiency in the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change.
  • ENERGY STAR Canada is a voluntary partnership between the Government of Canada and more than 1,500 organizations that manufacture, sell or promote ENERGY STAR–certified products and homes. The program is administered and promoted by Natural Resources Canada.
  • In 2015–2016, the ENERGY STAR products program generated approximately 4.0 petajoules (PJ) of energy savings through the promotion of ENERGY STAR–certified appliances, electronics, lighting and equipment.
  • The ENERGY STAR Canada Facebook and Twitter feeds provide Canadians with energy saving tips every day.
