Ethical Electric Passes One Billion Kilowatt-Hours Served to Retail Electricity Customers

WASHINGTON, Aug. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Ethical Electric, a renewable energy company providing 100 percent clean electricity to retail power customers across the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, and Midwest, today announced it recently passed one billion total kilowatt-hours (kWh) served to retail electricity customers across America.

The more than one billion kWh served to Ethical Electric customers is equivalent to keeping nearly 167,000 passenger vehicles off the road for a year, and avoids the carbon dioxide emissions of burning more than 843 million pounds of coal.

Ethical Electric has grown quickly since it launched in 2012 through several rounds of private investment and is now the fourth-largest direct-to-consumer renewable retail energy provider in the United States, expanding to eight states and the District of Columbia through campaign-based micro-targeting.

"Ethical Electric's customers are joining America's clean energy transition even if they can't install solar on their roofs, or if they live in a utility service territory reliant upon fossil fuel," said Tom Matzzie, Founder and CEO of Ethical Electric. "By choosing renewable energy, they're improving the environment by directly supporting solar and wind projects, ideally in the same region as where they live."

Ethical Electric directly supports wind farms in states including Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, and the company is expanding its offerings to include community solar and other renewable energy generation access as a founding Leadership member of the Coalition for Community Solar Access.

On average, each household that switches to Ethical Electric avoids 18,876 pounds of carbon pollution per year. The company's customers have created an overall environmental impact equivalent to preserving 734,000 acres of forest.

Ethical Electric also recently passed $1 million in total corporate donations to environmental and social impact organizations, nearly doubling total donations since early 2015. The company's charitable giving has powered it to the highest level of B Corp certification, with a company score 50 percent higher than the required score for B Corp certified companies.
