FortisBC advises of potential loss of gas supply

Canada NewsWire

SURREY, BC, Oct. 10, 2018 /CNW/ - On Wednesday, October 10, 2018, Westcoast Energy Inc. issued a notice that a pipeline has experienced an interruption in service due to a rupture on the T South system near Prince George, British Columbia. Due to this incident, Westcoast Energy Inc. declared a force majeure effective October 9, 2018 at 24:00 MST ("Westcoast Force Majeure"). The Westcoast Force Majeure resulted in a restriction of flow to all T South delivery points between CS4B and Huntingdon.

FortisBC Energy Inc. ("FEI") subsequently declared a force majeure under several of its rate schedules which informed shippers that their delivery of gas is being curtailed. FEI has approximately one million gas customers; it is estimated about 70 per cent of these customers have the potential to lose gas supply due to this incident.

FEI's infrastructure has not been impacted and FEI is monitoring facilities in the immediate area. FEI is currently working to assess alternative supply options and is communicating with its customers to encourage curtailment of gas use, both of which may provide more time to find a solution to the loss of supply.
