Gastech 2019 Program Spotlights Diversity & Inclusion in Energy

HOUSTON

Program to focus on the changing face of the energy industry resulting in disruption, innovation Includes Power Play Awards, highlighting women and men empowering diversity in the LNG industry

Gastech, the leading global conference and exhibition of the international gas, LNG and energy industries, today announced highlights of its Spotlight Program on Diversity & Inclusion in Energy. As the energy industry continues to face a talent crisis, recruiting and retaining talent from all backgrounds is becoming increasingly essential to evolve the traditional face of the sector. Truly inclusive workforces will introduce disruptive ideas into boardrooms, which will produce new and innovative ways of dealing with emerging challenges.

“Through Gastech 2019’s Diversity & Inclusion in Energy Program, we will highlight why diverse leaders are driving the energy industry forward,” said Chloe Abbott, dmg Events Conference Producer.

The energy sector realizes the importance of recruiting and encouraging individuals who possess a wide range of skillsets from various backgrounds. In order to recognize the accomplishments of remarkable women and men who uphold the importance of empowering diversity across all aspects of the LNG value chain, ExxonMobil established the Power Play Awards:

  • The Rising Star Award celebrates one woman, 35 or under, who is excelling early in her LNG career.
  • The Vanguard Award honors a woman or man who through their words, actions and attitude, inspires those who work with and around them.
  • The Rainmaker Award tributes a woman who has delivered outstanding business results, showcasing the value that women bring to the LNG sector.

The inaugural Power Play Awards will be presented during Gastech 2019 on September 18.

In an eBook recently released by Gastech Insights, energy professionals from ExxonMobil, ABB, National Utilities Diversity Council, University of Pittsburgh, Bechtel and Air Products shared their perspectives on changing the traditional face of the energy industry. Industry professionals Seifi Ghasemi and Nancy Swartout shared their perspectives below:

Seifi Ghasemi

Chairman, President & CEO, Air Products

“You cannot have a foundation for motivation and commitment unless you create an environment where people are excited about what they are doing, feel they are part of the organization, and are appreciated for what they think and contribute. In other words, you need an inclusive culture where everyone is empowered to realize his or her true potential.”

Nancy Swartout

Global Sustainable Procurement Manager, ExxonMobil

“Research shows us that diverse businesses hire a more diverse workforce and women invest in education and health care, which helps drive critical economic growth and development. This multiplier effect of prosperity has real implications for the future of our workforce, global operations, and growth strategy. This is one case where everyone wins.”

The Diversity & Inclusion in Energy Program is just one of the many spotlight programs at Gastech 2019 focused on workforce and career development; other programs include Young Gastech and the Energy Talent Exchange.
