OTTAWA, Sept. 22, 2016 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada is making strategic investments in clean technology to help create jobs and support Canada's transition to the low-carbon economy. Fostering innovation in areas such as energy efficiency also helps Canadians protect the environment and save money.

Karen McCrimmon, Member of Parliament for Kanata–Carleton and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, on behalf of Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, the Honourable Jim Carr, was on hand today to celebrate the grand opening of Minto Communities Canada's Net Zero Townhomes residential complex in Kanata, Ontario. Through government support and an increasing commitment on the part of Canadian business to help achieve a low-carbon future, innovative solutions such as these high-performing, energy-efficient homes are becoming more readily available to Canadians and are reducing the environmental impact of energy use while helping homeowners save money on their energy bills.

Natural Resources Canada has been engaged in low-energy and net-zero energy housing research for over a decade, helping make Canada a global leader in low-carbon energy. Minto is one of the five participating home builders that have benefited from Natural Resources Canada's nearly $2-million contribution to the Owens Corning Net Zero Housing Community Project.
