”With the turning of the first shovel of dirt, we’ve marked the start of construction for a first-of-its kind recreational and social gathering space for the entire Greene County community,” said Sheila Stewart, President, Greene County Memorial Hospital Foundation. “This state-of-the-art facility will be unlike anything Greene County has had before – and it serves as a symbol of the area’s bright and healthy future.”

The new recreation center will be situated on a 13.3-acre property at EverGreene Technology Park near Greene County Airport, adjacent to the Pennsylvania Army National Guard Readiness Center. The project will be constructed by the Foundation with its own funds, in addition to community and corporate sponsorships, including generous support from EQT Corporation as the facility’s naming sponsor.

“This is the beginning of an exciting and substantial investment in the wellbeing of Greene County residents and one that EQT is proud to support,” said Steven T. Schlotterbeck, President, EQT Corporation. “We’re standing in the heart of one of EQT’s most prolific and successful operational areas. When EQT first learned about Greene County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s plans for this complex, we knew we wanted to be a part of it in a big way – because we wanted to be able to give something back to the community that has welcomed us and grown with us during the last several years. There’s no doubt that we are invested in – and committed to – positively making a difference in this area and in the lives of the people who live here.”

The EQT REC Center – with REC standing for Recreation, Education and Community – will feature a 24,000-square foot soccer field with artificial turf that also can accommodate other uses, a regulation basketball court, locker rooms, a traverse climbing wall and several community rooms for events, meetings, exercise classes or educational classes. The second floor will have a suspended walking/jogging track overlooking the soccer field, a supervised child care room where parents can leave their children while using the facilities, conference room, several game rooms, and a fitness center.

The EQT REC Center is expected to take nine months to complete.
