Haynes and Boone, LLP has expanded its energy practice with the addition of an experienced oil and gas commercial litigator, Michelle Scheffler, to its team.

Scheffler has represented clients in multimillion-dollar lawsuits at both the state and federal courts throughout the country. Scheffler has represented major integrated oil and gas companies, privately owned independents and equity investors. In addition, Scheffler has covered a wide range of cases including operating agreements, lease termination disputes, royalty litigation and complex title disputes.

At Haynes and Boone, Scheffler will be reunited with prior colleagues from Andrews Kurth Kenyon LLP: Craig Stahl, Jeffrey Kuehnle and Bill McDonald. McDonald joined the Haynes and Boone energy team in 2018, while Stahl and Kuehnle joined the firm in 2017.

Scheffler has experience managing a docket of commercial litigation cases as a secondment to one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies. This experience provided her with unique insight into in-house counsel and business concerns.

Scheffler was profiled as one of the leading energy litigation lawyers in the United States by U.S. Legal 500, Legalease (2016), and has been named to Benchmark Litigation’s “Hot Under 40” list, Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC (2017) and Texas Super Lawyers Rising Stars, Thomson Reuters (2016).

Her education includes earning a J.D., University of Houston Law Center, 2006, magna cum laude. Scheffler will be headquartered in the firm’s Houston office.

Haynes and Boone’s energy practice is co-chaired by oil and gas finance authority Buddy Clark, author of Oil Capital: The History of American Oil, Wildcatters, Independents and Their Bankers.
