Laredo Petroleum, Inc. (ticker: LPI) announced this week that Patrick J. Curth, senior VP of exploration and land, will transition to a senior advisor role in anticipation of his retirement in March 2019.

VP of Exploration and Geosciences Technology James R. Courtier, VP of Reservoir Engineering Jason R. Greenwald and VP of Land Mark H. Elliott will jointly assume leadership of the company’s exploration, development and land initiatives. The three VPs will report directly to Chairman and CEO Randy A. Foutch.

“The contributions of Pat Curth to Laredo cannot be overstated,” Foutch said. “As one of the original members of the Laredo team, Pat played a major role in the building of the company’s contiguous acreage position, leading our effort to apply horizontal drilling technology in the Permian Basin and building a deep bench of talented geoscience professionals. I have worked closely with Pat for 20 years and appreciate his many contributions to three of my companies and wish him well in his retirement.”

Biographic profiles

James R. Courtier

James R. Courtier joined Laredo in August 2014 as VP of Exploration and Geosciences Technology. Prior to joining Laredo, Courtier spent eight years at Hess Corporation, most recently as regional subsurface manager of the Bakken, with prior roles in exploration management and strategic planning. Prior to Hess, Courtier spent 10 years at ConocoPhillips as a senior geophysicist. Courtier holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Geology from University of Leicester and a Master of Science in Basin Evolution and Dynamics from Royal Holloway, University of London.

Jason R. Greenwald

Jason R. Greenwald joined Laredo in March 2016 as VP of Reservoir Engineering. Prior to joining Laredo, Greenwald served as Director and Head of Engineering at Simmons & Company International, an energy-focused investment bank.  Prior to Simmons, Greenwald spent 9 years at Hess Corporation, most recently as senior manager of subsurface – specifically, the joint venture with the Malaysian national oil company, with prior roles in developments, business planning and corporate strategy.

Prior to Hess, Greenwald spent five years at ExxonMobil, all spent in reservoir engineering roles of increasing responsibility and complexity. Greenwald holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Rice University, a Masters of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management and a Masters of Engineering Management from Northwestern University.

Mark H. Elliott joined Laredo in April 2008 as exploration manager in the Permian Basin and became VP of Midland in July 2011 and VP of exploration and land in the Permian, in September 2011.

He currently holds the title of VP of Land. Before joining Laredo, Elliott served as VP of geology and exploration for Rex Energy Operating Company’s southwest region from May 2007 to May 2008. From August 2006 to May 2007, he was a senior geologist at Cimarex Energy.

In 2004, he joined Latigo in the Midland office as a senior geologist and served in that position until the company was sold in 2006. Elliott has 38 years of experience in the oil and gas industry and throughout his career has served in both staff and management positions. Elliott graduated from Thiel College with a Bachelor degree in Geology.
