Linde expert to discuss optimizing fracture and stimulation effectiveness with energized solutions at Houston conference

Cites advantages to enhance recovery in full-field development of unconventional oil and gas reservoirs

MURRAY HILL, N.J. and NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J., Oct. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- A Linde expert will address strategies that can enhance oil and gas reservoir production and increase overall recovery rates at an upcoming conference on Innovations in Production Enhancement in Unconventional Oil and Gas. The conference, sponsored by The Energy Conference Network, will be held at the JW Marriott Houston Hotel in Houston, Texas, on October 19-22, 2015.

At the conference, Robin Watts, Oil and Gas Stimulations Program Manager for Linde Region Americas, will discuss how optimizing individual well treatments and scaling up to full field development leads to the better economics with a lower water footprint when utilizing energized fracturing fluids. This optimization centers on the concept of the 3 Es: enhancing productivity, environmental footprint reduction, and improved economics of the field.

With oil prices at their lowest in recent memory, it's critical for energy producers to find strategies to enhance oil and gas reservoir production, lower production costs and increase overall recovery rates. "We will show that energized solutions, incorporating carbon dioxide and nitrogen, for hydraulic fracturing or individual well stimulation can optimize the treatment design and bring the added benefit of EOR & IOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery & Improved Oil Recovery) – the E-I-O R of energized fluids," says Watts in her paper entitled Energy Solutions: The EOR & IOR (E-I-O-R) for Energized Fluids for Hydraulic Fracturing. A world leader in industrial gases and engineering, Linde's Oil & Gas Services supports oil and gas exploration and production throughout North and South America with CO2 and N2, equipment, personnel, and services.

Watts will review case studies on the productivity and economics of various fracturing fluids in unconventional plays and then assess, in the Eagle Ford Formation in Texas, relative costs of stimulations with various fracturing fluids and compare the simulated production results for each of those fluids. Reducing the footprint of water can be significant through the use of safe, alternative fracturing fluids such as energized fluids.

Watts will also review the effectiveness of the Linde Huff 'n Puff system as a proven single-well stimulation method that may dramatically increase production from stripper, depleted, or low-pressure oil wells. Watts says, "Huff 'n Puff is extremely cost effective, even at today's oil prices. Studies have shown CO2 Huff 'n Puff may increase oil recovery, boost short-term production, and provide important information on injectivity and pressure communication with adjacent wells."
