Multinational Appliance Manufacturer Specs Orion LED Lighting for Its Six US Facilities

First installation in Tennessee cuts their fixture count by 500, utility bill by over $200,000 and energy consumption by two million kilowatt hours annually due to Orion fixture performance and modularity

Orion Energy Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: OESX), a leading designer and manufacturer of high-performance, energy-efficient retrofit lighting platforms, today announced a multinational appliance manufacturer has named Orion as the spec for all LED lighting in its six US facilities. The first major energy conservation project will take place at the company’s Tennessee location, which includes upgrading their existing inefficient fluorescent lighting with 1,200 Orion LED high bays and strip fixtures. Each of the remaining five plants will require the retrofit of more than 2,000 existing fixtures for a total of approximately 12,000 fixtures.

Over the years, this manufacturer had previously installed 1,300 Orion fluorescent high bay fixtures, along with an over 350 additional fluorescent task lights and a few High Intensity Discharge (HID) fixtures in a southeastern facility where refrigerators and ranges are manufactured. Rather than disrupting their production lines when fixtures needed to be repaired or replaced, the manufacturing company simply added more fixtures to meet their lighting needs. When the customer elected to upgrade to LED fixtures, they also chose to redesign their lighting system so that it better met their lighting needs.

After a competitive review including a test hang, photometric engineering analysis and a full energy savings evaluation of the plant, Orion was chosen because its high-performing fixtures could deliver more light with fewer fixtures that the other lighting company options.

Choosing Orion’s APOLLO® LED High Bay and APOLLO® LED Suspended Slimline products helped the customer reduce the overall number of fixtures in their facility by almost 500, while meeting their lighting requirements. The Orion APOLLO® High Bay fixtures were also selected because of their modular compatibility with the customer’s existing Orion fluorescent fixtures, allowing the facility to save money by reusing existing motion sensors, rather than having to purchase a new control option.

By significantly reducing the number of fixtures installed, the customer not only reduced their energy demand by over 250 kilowatts (kW), they also expect to save over $200,000 per year on their electric bill, and their total energy consumption will be reduced by two million kilowatt hours (kWh) annually.

Because the customer transitioned from a patchwork of different technologies to single, clean and consistent LED platform, the facility not only performs better, but also looks better and is easier to maintain. A second phase at the manufacturer’s Tennessee facility is in planning to replace the fluorescent task lighting in mezzanines with Orion’s LED fixtures, which will further reduce that location’s fixture counts by another 200-300 fixtures while maintaining or exceeding current light levels.

“Being energy-efficient helps companies in two ways – by saving costs and contributing to the sustainable stewardship of our natural resources,” said John Scribante, Chief Executive Officer of Orion Energy Systems, Inc. “Our customer is a model for the nation in sustainable manufacturing practices and leadership. It is an honor to be part of their value chain with Orion’s innovative, energy-saving LED fixtures contributing to their sustainability outcomes and bottom line.”

The APOLLO® High Bay, the mid-tier offering in Orion’s latest LED High Bay suite, sets a new standard for performance in its class with up to 152 lumens per watt and an unprecedented modular platform. The fixture is upgradeable and interchangeable, allowing maintenance crews to meet changing light distribution requirements, such as moving from an open area to aisle lighting. By simply turning off the power to the luminaire, internal teams can use quick attachments to easily switch out aisle illuminators and modular power packs for driver replacement.

The versatile slim design of the APOLLO® Suspended Slimline Series lends itself to many low bay commercial and industrial lighting applications including retail, office and task areas. Available in five lumen package from 2,000 to 9,000 lumens and featuring Orion’s custom mounting accessory kits that easily adjust in the field to optimal mounting height, the fixtures offer easy installation, several color temperatures, optimized light delivery and attractive design.
