RALEIGH, N.C., Sept. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- North Carolina's electric cooperatives are reporting a total of 7,800 outages resulting from Tropical Storm Hermine as of 8 a.m. Crews are in the field working to restore power to cooperative members as quickly as possible. Restoration work will continue until power is restored to all cooperative members.

The cooperatives report outages primarily affecting members in the following eastern North Carolina counties: Beaufort, Bertie, Columbus, Dare, Gates, Perquimans and Washington.

Cooperative members are reminded to always assume powerlines are energized and dangerous. If you encounter a fallen, sparking or sagging power line, do not touch it. Never attempt to move tree branches or other objects touching or near power lines. Instead, report damaged power lines or poles to your local electric cooperative or call 911 immediately. Stay away from flooded areas. If you see cooperative crews working on the side of the road, slow down and leave plenty of space.

Electric cooperative members experiencing outages can report those outages to their cooperative using phone numbers found at this link: www.ncelectriccooperatives.com/storm/outages.htm.

North Carolina's electric cooperatives serve approximately 2.5 million people in 93 of the state's 100 counties.
