National Steel City Honored With Two Prestigious Industry Accolades: 2015 AISC Safety Award & IMPACT 2015 Project of the Year

Company Executives to Spotlight Both Awards at 18th Annual ELECTRIC POWER Conference & Exhibition This Week in New Orleans

PLYMOUTH, MI--(Marketwired - Apr 18, 2016) - National Steel City, the nation's third largest structural steel erector, today announced it has been honored with two prestigious industry accolades: being named a 2015 AISC Safety Award winner, and the Ironworker Management Progressive Action Cooperative Trust's (IMPACT) 2015 Project of the Year award for Southern Company's/Alabama Power 'Plant Gorgas Civil/Prime' project. Company executives will spotlight the recent award wins at the 18th annual ELECTRIC POWER 2016 Conference and Exhibition (Booth 519) this week at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.

2015 AISC Safety Award: Bestowed by the American Institute of Steel Construction, this annual commendation is awarded to structural steel organizations with excellent records of safety performance in 2015. NSC worked more than 1.3 million hours last year without an injury involving any lost time, based on DART (Days Away, Restrictions and Transfers) rate. AISC is publicly recognizing all 2015 AISC Safety Award recipients this week at the 2016 NASCC: The Steel Conference in Orlando.

IMPACT's 2015 Project of the Year Award: The highly coveted and competitive awards now cover five different areas of the ironworking industry: Bridge/Structural; Architectural/Ornamental; Fabrication; Reinforcing and Industrial/Rigging/Machinery Moving. NSC won Project of the Year in the Industrial/Rigging/Machinery Moving category for its work on behalf of Southern Company's Alabama Power Plant Gorgas Civil/Prime Project.

"We are honored to be recognized by both the AISC and IMPACT for these prestigious industry awards," said National Steel City CEO Bob Dunn. "Each year, the awards shine a spotlight on those organizations who truly set the standard in providing exceptional world-class safety performance, and for NSC, the awards are a testament to our team's hard work, dedication and relentless safety everywhere focus."

NSC's revenue surge has been fueled by major award contract wins and repeat Power industry business, based on its leadership position as one of the nation's leading project contractors for the electric utility and heavy industrial markets. NSC projects include the erection of single and combined cycle natural gas power plants, erecting HRSGs and Air Cooled Condensers (ACCs), along with the erection of turbine buildings, the rough-setting of all mechanical equipment including the rigging work, and the heavy haul of components.

NSC's focus on Air Quality Control Systems ranges from FGDs, SCRs and Fabric Filters to turnkey Scrubber and Precipitator retrofits, and its industry-recognized safety and productivity efforts are validated by EMR, TRIR and DART rates that to demonstrate its top-down safety culture is leading a new industry standard in industrial safety.

Earlier in 2015, NSC became one of the first companies to implement a 24/7 safety everywhere initiative titled SAWHORSE (Safety At Work, Home, Office, Recreation, Safety Everywhere) to heighten awareness and foster a culture of safety for all NSC employees. In addition to extremely competitive EMR and TRIR rates, National Steel City enjoys a five-times lower OSHA Recordable Incident Rate than the industry average and holds one of the industry's lowest DART rates.
