Nearly $10 Million in Major Renovations to Improve the Quality of Life of Tenants at Habitations Plamondon

MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - June 2, 2017) - Anthony Housefather, Member of Parliament for Mount Royal, along with Pierre Arcand, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Minister responsible for the Plan Nord, Minister responsible for the Côte-Nord region, and Member of the National Assembly for Mont-Royal, today announced the completion of the major renovations at Habitations Plamondon, in Montréal.

This 76 unit low-rent housing project, built in 1980, required combined investments of nearly $10 million.

The financial assistance allowed for several improvements, including to the exterior building envelope and unit ventilation. Decontamination and upgrading operations were conducted, particularly to the garbage chute, boiler room and elevators.

Three partners, namely, the Government of Canada ($4.7 million), through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), the Government of Quebec ($3.7 million), through the Société d'habitation du Québec (SHQ), and the Montréal Metropolitan Community (MMC) ($942,000), worked together to ensure that these renovations, coordinated by the Office municipal d'habitation de Montréal, would be carried out.

A grant of more than $232,000 from Transition énergétique Québec, provided through the ÉcoPerformance program, also allowed for the implementation of energy efficiency measures that will reduce the building's environmental footprint. The integration of a heat recovery system, a heat pump and a solar wall will lower the energy bill of the building as well as reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Hydro-Québec also granted over $18,000 in financial assistance through its Energy Efficiency Retrofit Program for Low-Income Households.
