David M. Harris, previously AltaGas’ (ticker: ALA; AltaGas.ca) president and COO, has succeeded David W. Cornhill as president and CEO, as announced previously. David Cornhill, founder of AltaGas, continues as chairman of the board.

David Harris (B.Sc., MBA) joined AltaGas in 2010 and is an experienced project executive who has built hydroelectric projects internationally and in North America. Mr. Harris holds an Executive MBA in addition to a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering. Prior to his more than 20 years in business, Mr. Harris held the rank of Commander in the United States Navy.

The Calgary-based diversified energy company owns or operates natural gas, power, and utilities infrastructure projects in North America. Its natural gas infrastructure in Canada includes six extraction plants, five natural gas transmission systems, three NGL pipelines, more than 70 gathering and processing facilities, and a 6,500 km network of gathering and sales lines. On the power side, the company has 353 MW of base-load coal-fired and 54 MW of gas-fired power generation in Alberta, as well as 507 MW of gas-fired generation in southern California, wind turbines (117 MW), run-of-river (11.5 MW) and biomass (35 MW) projects, with an additional 195 MW run-of river project under construction. The company said it had 66 MW and 16 MW run-of-river projects under construction, scheduled for commissioning in 2015. The company’s utility assets deliver natural gas to over half a million customers in Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Michigan and Alaska, representing a rate base of more than $1.2 billion.
