The new year marked the beginning of electric service provided by NTE
Energy in North Carolina. On January 1st, 2018, five North
Carolina wholesale customers began receiving low-cost power supply from
the St. Augustine-based energy company, rather than Duke Energy. The
Towns of Winterville, Black Creek, Lucama, Sharpsburg, and Stantonsburg,
NC, have long-term Power Purchase Agreements with NTE and seamlessly
began receiving NTE power at midnight on January 1st. Another 4 cities
(Concord NC, Kings Mountain NC, Greenwood SC, and New River Light and
Power) have similar contracts with NTE, and will be receiving power from
NTE beginning later this year. Several other communities in North and
South Carolina are, also, in advanced discussions to switch their energy
supplier to NTE.
Seth Shortlidge, CEO of NTE Energy, said, “NTE was founded in 2009 with
a goal to revolutionize the power industry by bringing low cost,
reliable and environmentally-conscious energy to our customer
communities. We are extremely proud of this milestone, and to be
bringing significant power cost savings and economic development
opportunities to each of these communities. We look forward to many more
communities throughout the Southeast obtaining these same advantages,
and providing their citizens with significantly reduced power costs.”
NTE’s first North Carolina power plant is the Kings Mountain Energy
Center, a state of the art, 500MW combined cycle plant located in
Cleveland County. NTE’s second plant in the Carolinas, The Reidsville
Energy Center, is an approximately 500MW combined cycle generating
facility to be constructed in Rockingham County, NC. The Rockingham
County project recently commenced construction, after receiving its
interconnection agreement with Duke Energy Carolinas last month. The
company has additional combined cycle plants under development in the
Carolinas, as well as a 30MW solar project in Fayetteville, NC.
