BISMARCK, N.D.- September was a record-setting month in the Bakken oil fields of North Dakota.

In the monthly report from North Dakota’s Mineral Resources Department, new all-time records were set in September in both oil and gas production and in the number of producing wells. The September oil production set a new North Dakota record at 1.36 million barrels per day. Gas production also set a new all-time high at 2.53 million cubic feet.

The number of producing wells was 15,287, also a new North Dakota record, according to the state’s figures.

But not all the news from the Bakken was positive in the report. Most notably the price of Bakken sweet crude, which sold at $42 a barrel Monday.

In comparison, the price of West Texas Intermediate Crude Oil at market close was $57.29 a barrel.

As of last Friday, 62 oil rigs were operating in the Bakken, according to the state. The all-time high was 218 rigs back in July 2008.
