A fixture along the Philadelphia skyline, PECO’s iconic LED Crown Lights system will power down for Earth Hour 2016 on Saturday, March 19 from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Prior to “going dark” a special message will appear from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Message:
“We’re turning off our Crown Lights for Earth Hour 2016 tonight from 8:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Join us! Turn off your lights & save energy. Find more ways to save energy and money at www.peco.com/smartideas

PECO customers are encouraged to support Earth Hour 2016 by turning lights off at their homes and businesses to save energy. Customers also can take steps to save energy and money year round, including:

  • Schedule a PECO Smart House Call - PECO will send an energy advisor to your home, provide a personal energy assessment and offer energy-efficient upgrades on the spot.
  • Use a programmable thermostat
  • Caulk and weather strip windows and doors
  • Turn lights off when you leave a room
  • Close blinds/shades/drapes in the summer and leave them open in the winter
  • Use energy-efficient appliances: When shopping for appliances such as refrigerators, look for the ENERGY STAR® label, and purchase the most affordable energy efficient unit.

Before customers turn their lights back on this Earth Hour, take a moment to replace incandescent light bulbs with LEDs (light emitting diode) or new CFLs (compact fluorescent lamp), which use about 75 percent less energy.
