PowerStream and Collus PowerStream Select Opower for New Energy Efficiency Program

Program is first of its kind to be approved under Ontario’s Conservation First Framework

PowerStream and Collus PowerStream, community-owned energy companies that serve customers in the Greater Toronto Area and Central Ontario, today announced they have selected Opower to deliver the first behavioral energy efficiency program under the Minister of Energy’s Conservation First Framework. Opower will help PowerStream and Collus PowerStream engage its customers through proactive, targeted messaging that offers personalized advice to improve customer satisfaction and help them save energy and money on their monthly bills.

“These new tools that empower our customers to save money and energy demonstrate PowerStream and Collus PowerStream’s commitment to provide a high quality service experience,” said Maurizio Bevilacqua, PowerStream Board Chair and Mayor of the City of Vaughan. “Opower’s behavioral energy efficiency program will help us lead the way in supporting the new Conservation First Framework.”

Opower’s Home Energy Reports (HERs) offer a series of customized tips to help customers identify easy ways to lower their consumption and save money. The reports pair behavioral science with Big Data analytics to provide useful information about whether a household’s energy use is in line with similar-sized homes, the time of year, and local weather patterns.

The unique, personalized insights in Opower’s HERs are powered by the company’s industry-leading data platform and analytics engine. With over 40 percent of all residential energy consumption data and nearly two-thirds of AMI data in the U.S., Opower processes more household energy data than any other company on earth, so PowerStream customers will be getting the most accurate and informative energy insights available to the utility industry.

“It’s exciting to see yet another competitive international utility delivering our innovative customer engagement platform to their customers,” said Opower CEO Dan Yates. “Investing in the customer experience is the mark of a truly cutting edge utility, and Opower is glad to help PowerStream drive business value and customer satisfaction through our program.”
