1,063 rigs is highest level since March 2015
Drilling activity increased relatively rapidly this week, according to the latest edition of Baker Hughes’ Weekly Rig Count.

A net 11 rigs came online this week, the largest single-week increase since early August. There are a total of 1,063 rigs running in the U.S., the highest since March 2015. This also marks a break from the recent months of narrow shifts in drilling activity, as the nationwide rig count has hovered near 1,050 since May. Next week may show if this represents a sustained change, or if activity will decline toward the equilibrium once again.
