The event will feature a keynote interview with Emily Hammond, Professor of Law at George Washington University Law School. She will discuss her research on the role of nuclear power in reducing CO2 emissions and achieving compliance with the Clean Power Plan. A panel discussion featuring former EPA Administrator and Nuclear Matters Leadership Council member Carol M. Browner and Dr. Jan Mazurek, Program Director of Clean Power at ClimateWorks Foundation will conclude the event.

"Nuclear power represents over 60 percent of the carbon-free electricity generated in the United States, which seems to be overlooked by politicians and academics in Washington, D.C.," said Chris Gadomski, lead analyst, nuclear, at Bloomberg New Energy Finance. "Professor Hammond's research plays an important role in raising awareness regarding the environmental contribution that nuclear energy can make toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions."

"The existing nuclear fleet provides 63 percent of the carbon-free energy produced in the United States. Keeping them online will help us achieve our carbon pollution reduction goals," said Browner. "Several states, such as New York, have recognized nuclear energy for its carbon-free attributes in forward thinking measures that appropriately value existing nuclear power for its contribution to our clean energy future. Moving away from fossil fuels and developing clean energy, including wind, solar, other renewables and maintaining existing nuclear power, must be part of our national energy policy."
