Southern States' Joe Rostron Selected as 2018 Global Energy "Lifetime Achievement" Awards Finalist

Winners to be Recognized at December 6 New York Gala

HAMPTON, Ga., Sept. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Energy companies from 37 countries have been selected as finalists for the S&P Global Platts Global Energy Awards. The 2018 finalists were announced this week by program host S&P Global Platts, the leading global provider of energy and commodities information and spot market benchmarks.

Joseph Rostron, a 48-year energy industry veteran and senior vice president of technology development at Southern States LLC, was named one of five finalists for the 2018 Platts Global Energy Lifetime Achievement Award. Rostron is a prolific creator of innovative switching, protection and smart grid solutions who has advanced the global energy industry with nearly 50 patents and dozens of commercial products.

Established in 1999 and often described as "the Oscars of the energy industry," Global Energy Awards highlight corporate and individual innovation, leadership and superior performance in 19 categories that span the entire energy complex.

The Lifetime Achievement category honors the leader "who has made an outstanding contribution to the development and future of the energy industry as a whole in the course of his or her career," according to the Platts category description. Rostron was nominated for his commitment to innovation in the energy industry throughout his career.

"Rostron has worked quietly and tirelessly throughout his career, developing solutions to some of the industries' toughest technical challenges," said Raj Anand, president and CEO of Southern States. "He has developed 48 patents, 31 during his 20 years at Southern States. He developed (and continues to develop) proactive solutions to electric utility industry issues – particularly those that enhance reliability and grid operational safety. Many of these have resulted in commercial successes and adoption by energy providers worldwide."

Hundreds of energy industry representatives are expected to attend the 2018 Global Energy Awards black-tie dinner gala in New York City on December 6. The awards program will be emceed by CNBC Reporter Jackie DeAngelis.

Preceding the awards program, finalists and other industry executives will take part in the S&P Global Platts Global Energy Outlook Forum, a platform for exploration and debate of industry-critical issues by energy executives, government officials and academics.
