Halliburton Lands Nine Contracts for Offshore Project in West Africa

From The Houston Chronicle Houston oilfield service company Halliburton has landed nine contracts to drill and complete a series of wells off the coast in West Africa. Australian exploration and production company Woodside Energy awarded the contracts to Halliburton as part of the first phase of developing the SNE Field off the coast of Senegal. Financial terms have not been disclosed but Halliburton reported that the contracts contingent on Woodside making a final investment decision to move forward with the ambitious offshore project. If the project reaches a positive final investment decision, the drilling campaign could start in late 2020 or early 2021 with 18 wells and up to eight optional wells over an estimated 3- to 4-year term. Does Increase in Oil Service Activity Indicate an Uptick?

Oil prices have been on the rise over the course of the last several months, and for the first time in a long time, rig count has been moving up instead of down. With the price reaching $50 a barrel, the expectation is that oil and gas producers will likely stand rigs back up and put frac crews back to work as they begin to increase activity as economics permit. The industry remains in the trough portion of the revenue cycle, however, that is a lagging indicator relative to oil price. The increase in activity has the potential to pull the industry out of the down cycle. KLR Group highlighted this sentiment in a note to investors today.
