Toshiba Presents Rail Technologies and Solutions at SITCE2018

SINGAPORE, July 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. will be participating in Singapore International Transport Congress and Exhibition (SITCE) from July 9 -11, to showcase how the company's infrastructure solutions can contribute to better quality of life, even as urban populations grow and put more stress on cities.

Toshiba Asia Pacific has been in Singapore for over 20 years and one of its focuses is on transportation solutions. As Singapore aims to be a livable and inclusive community where a well-connected transport system is in place, Toshiba is well positioned to deliver urban rail technologies. The company will showcase rail scheduling management systems, energy-saving permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) propulsion systems and Traction Energy Storage Systems (TESS) using its unique lithium ion battery called SCiB™.

With this efficient energy storage system of TESS, regenerative energy created by a train while braking can either be discharged to another accelerating train or stored in the battery when there is a surplus. This excess regenerative energy in the battery can subsequently be charged and discharged efficiently to promote voltage stabilization and reduce energy wastage. The energy storage system with SCiB™ can also act as an independent electricity supply in case of a power outage, where it can be utilized to bring passengers on the train to the nearest station, without having the passengers walk along the tracks.

In addition, Toshiba TrueLine™ cloud-based transit scheduling system generates optimum schedules by employing artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to improve rail operations and reducing maintenance downtimes.

Mr. Nobuhiko Satake, Chief Specialist, Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions (TISS), will also be delivering a speech about the smart technologies including energy-saving battery solutions for efficient rail systems.

In addition to TESS, SCiB™ can also be installed on board the trains to offer more mobility. This battery system can act as an independent electricity supply in case of a power outage, where it can be utilized to bring passengers on the train to the nearest station, without having the passengers walk along the tracks.

SITCE will offer visitors the opportunity to see why Toshiba was selected to supply electrical systems for Taiwan's High Speed Rail system, and why Toshiba's rail technologies are relied on by rail service providers in countries as diverse as Japan, South Africa, Egypt, the USA, Brazil, Thailand and the Philippines.
