This week’s Baker Hughes rig count shows that U.S. numbers declined by 5, resulting in the total count falling to 855 and marks the seventh straight decline.

Canada increased over last week by 17 rigs, resulting in a total count of 144.

Breakdown by region

Of the regions tracked by Baker Hughes, only two regions saw an increase; the Permian basin saw an increase of 1 rig this week, from 414 to 415, while the Williston saw an increase of 2 rigs this week, from 53 to 55

Meanwhile, the 4 regions that experienced a decrease were:

  • Cana Woodford is at 36, down 2 from last week.
  • DJ-Niobrara is at 21, down 1 from last week
  • Eagle Ford is at 60, down 2 from last week.
  • Marcellus is at 48, down 2 from last week.

All other regions saw no net change in the active rig count.
