Canadian numbers rise by 18

This week’s Baker Hughes rig count shows that U.S. numbers fell by nine, bringing the total down to 975. Compared to this time last year, the decline is even steeper, with yearly numbers down 87 compared to June of 2018.

Canada, on the other hand, is up compared to last week with a total count of 103, representing an increase of 18 rigs. Compared to this time last year, its total is down by nine.

Breakdown by region

In total, three basins experienced an increase this week:

  • Ardmore Woodford is at six, up one from last week
  • Granite Wash is at eight, up one from last week
  • Haynesville is at 53, up two from last week

On the other side of the coin, six regions experienced a decrease:

  • Cana Woodford is at 44, down one from last week
  • DJ-Niobrara is at 28, down one from last week
  • Eagle Ford is at 74, down one from last week
  • Marcellus is at 58, down three from last week
  • Permian is at 446, down six from last week
  • Williston is at 56, down one from last week

All other regions saw no net change in active rig count.
