Baker Hughes released its weekly rig count today. The total U.S. number of rigs went up 13, ending the week of May 25, 2018 at 1,059. A year ago at this time there were 881 U.S. rigs at work.

Texas has the most rigs by far at 534. Oklahoma is the closest competitor at 140 rigs. Last year the two states had 458 and 123 rigs, respectively. The Permian continues to be a hotbed of activity with 478 rigs, growing by 116 rigs in a year.

Canada’s rig count fell by two and ended the week at 81. A year ago, Canada had 93 rigs at this time. Overall, North America has 1140 rigs – 139 more than last year.

Internationally, Baker Hughes’ April 2018 data shows 978 rigs in the field. Compared to March 2018, the rig count has gone up by six. There are 22 more rigs than in April 2017.
