Security Service of Ukraine detains Russian oil tanker, releases crew after threats from Moscow
A Russian oil tanker is being detained by Ukrainian authorities in the port of Izmail near the Black Sea in what appears to be an act of retaliation for a similar incident that occurred last November.
According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the vessel in question – now operating under the name Nika Spirit – was detained for its role in Russia’s blockage of the Kerch Strait last November, which led to the seizure of three Ukrainian boats and the capture of their 24-man crew, all of whom remain in Russian custody at this time.
